The Furuno PUMPHRP17 series are reversing gerotor hydraulic pumps designed to interface seamlessly with NavPilot series autopilots and hydraulic steering systems, delivering quiet, reliable, and precise hydraulic steering control. The reversible gerotor gear pump, featuring a two-piece gear housed in an eccentric ring, provides smooth hydraulic flow essential for accurate vessel steering.

Hydraulic steering systems incorporate actuators and one or more helm pumps, which pump hydraulic oil into the appropriate steering lines based on wheel position. The pumpset output flow rate directly affects steering cylinder speed. The PUMPHRP17 series pumpsets output approximately 1.6 cubic inches of oil per second. The direction and movement of the rudder are controlled by the hydraulic cylinder linked to the tiller arm and rudder shaft, converting linear cylinder movement to rotary rudder motion.

When multiple helm pumps are employed, a return/fill hydraulic line must connect all helm pump cases to maintain system balance.
